Website Launch: A Touch of Lock & Co Ecommerce Class

Lock & Co is the oldest hat shop in the world! Establish in 1676 way back when Charles II was King, this fabulous London milliners is also one of the oldest family run businesses in existence.

They garnered their well earned Royal Warrant and fashion-stripes for their centuries-honed craftsmanship and innovative designs which are still worn to this day by everyone from members of the Royal Family to celebrities.

A recent collaboration with Mr Porter for the Kingsman movie debut brought the perception of the brand forwards, putting them in front of the Millenials. With an effortless blend of heritage and contemporary design, their aim has always been that of the highest quality and authenticity, a chord that rings true with today’s ecommerce audience, and this was a key element that needed to be reflected in their new responsive ecommerce website.

Lock & Co recognised that even a brand as established as their’s needed to make the move into ecommerce; to bring their legacy online and make it current. To achieve this, we worked alongside their team to identify their ‘pain and gain’ points, and how to represent these in the best way online.

Developing the website in Magento meant that Lock & Co would have total management of their website’s pages and would be able to easily integrate with their stock / sales partner Esperus.

The new website includes all the responsive Magento ecommerce bells and whistles that you’d expect, as well as:

Bespoke home page with multiple, as well as optional, region management
– Sizing and guides
– Hat care
Dynamic filter colour and image transitions at the category level
– Videos
– Timeline which incorporates branded lazy loading effects, animated features, micro-UX elements and parallax effects to create a more immersive educational experience

We truly immersed ourselves into the brand with numerous store visits. Spending time with their team learning about brand history, in-store customer experiences and internal processes was an invaluable part of the process for everyone involved. And as a result we were able to build them a website that not only looked beautiful, and generated more revenue as a result, but was also functional for the Lock team internally.

Coupled with a streamlined user experience and key functionality like appointment bookings, size guides and how-tos, we’ve been able to improve the overall customer journey online and mimic the luxurious quality of service you’d receive from anyone at the Lock & Co shop.
